For nearly 50 years, Jesse Winters has spearheaded the Ramsey Tour Road Race event that now serves as one of the oldest road races in the country. The Ramsey Tour is a staple in the Sudbury Running Community, with the 5km and Half-Marathon events starting and finishing on the Laurentian campus attracting several hundred competitors from across the province each fall. Jesse has worked tirelessly for five decades to keep this event thriving. Proceeds from this event have provided over $200,000 in bursaries for varsity runners at both Laurentian University and Cambrian College. Jesse Winter is truly a Special Voyageur!

Remembering an LU Legend - Dr. Ron Wallingford.
We recently lost a giant in Laurentian University Athletics and Canadian distance running, with the passing of Dr. Ron Wallingford. “Doc” as he was affectionately known, was the Head Coach of Laurentian’s Track & Field team for many years after achieving incredible success as an athlete competing for the University of Michigan and for Canada. Ron was a Canadian record holder in the steeplechase and also placed third in the Boston Marathon. Incredibly, Ron, along with his son Darcy and grandson and current LU team member Keon, all competed for Canada at the Pan-AM Games on the track, in the pool and on the cross country course. Ron will be dearly missed by his family, friends and the Laurentian community, but will be remembered as an amazing athlete, coach, professor, mentor and family man.
