Darren Jermyn – Head Coach
Darren Jermyn, Head Coach

Darren Jermyn assumed the role of Head Coach in 2021, after serving as Assistant and Associate Head Coach with the program since 2000. Prior to being named Head Coach, Coach Jermyn was the lead for the Men’s Cross Country Team and the Men’s and Women’s Distance (1500/3000m) Indoor Track training group.
Over his 25-year coaching career with Laurentian University and the Track North Athletic Club, Coach Jermyn’s athletes have won numerous Athletics Ontario, OFSAA, National Youth and National Junior Championship medals and have competed at the World U-20 Track & Field Championships, Junior Pan-American and NACAC Cross Country Championships.
Coach Jermyn was the winner of the Sudbury Kinsmen’s Coach of the Year Award in 2011 and was the Laurentian University Coach of the Year award winner in 2022.
Coach Jermyn is a certified Performance Coach (Level 4) in the Endurance Events under the NCCP/Athletics Canada coaching pathway.
Coach Jermyn is a former bronze medalist in the OUA 1500m, a top-20 finisher at the U Sports Cross Country Championships and a qualifier for both the U Sports and Athletics Canada Nationals in middle distance events. He competed successfully for both the University of Western Ontario and Laurentian during his university career.
A registered physiotherapist with over 30 years of experience working with athletes, Coach Jermyn has a specific interest in the assessment and management of running related injuries. He also works as the Administrative Director of the Community Care, Rehabilitation and Nephrology Programs at Health Sciences North and holds the rank of Assistant Professor at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
