Ontario University Cross-Country Running Championship – 2015

The Laurentian cross-country running teams competed at the Ontario University championships in Waterloo this weekend. The women’s squad qualified for the CIS championships by finishing 5th, with a record low score and time. The men’s team finished a respectable 12th, beating three squads in their first year of competition and achieving their season’s goal time.

The Laurentian women’s cross-country running team competed at the Western International, in London, this weekend, finishing with a best-ever 4th place finish for the event. The race involved 111 runners from 12 teams from Ontario, Quebec and Indiana.

Led by second year runner, Emily Marcolini (Sudbury), the Vees finished with a school record 124 points on the course, only 3 points behind 3rd place McMaster. It was an improvement over their 7th place 187-point finish of last year.

Seven athletes from the Laurentian University women’s track team competed at the OUA Championships this weekend at York University. They returned with two top-8 finishes and a number of personal best performances.

The Voyageur contingent was led by senior Adrienne Wilson (Kitchener), who placed a surprise 6th in the 1000m with a personal best time of 2:56.91.

The Laurentian women’s track team sent a partial squad to the University of Toronto for the Hal Brown Last Chance Memorial meet this weekend.

The team was led by 3000 metre runners Lyndsay Greasely and Emily Marcolini, who ran excellent team tactics in pushing the pace over the gruelling 15-lap race. Greasely finished 4th with a time of 10:46.48, just ahead of Marcolini’s 5th place 10:47.09. It was a personal best for Greasley and and indoor best for Marcolini.

Eight athletes from the Laurentian women’s track team traveled across the border this weekend, competing at the Dave Hemery Valentine Invitational at the University of Boston. The squad returned with seven personal bests and two OUA qualifying standards in this major meet that involved dozens of east-coast universities and teams from as far away as Texas.

The Laurentian women’s track team competed at the York University Open indoor track and field meet this weekend, returning with two medals, five OUA qualifying marks and 16 personal bests.

The Vees were led by Adrienne Wilson’s bronze medal in the hotly-contested 1500m. Wilson (Kitchener) ran a personal-best time of 4:38.09 that, as of February 2nd, ranks her 9th in the OUA and 13th in the CIS.

Rookie sprinter, Ashley Huard (Hanmer) experienced the toughest competition, racing the 60m and 300m against three athletes who represented Canada at the London Olympics. They included Phylicia George, who finished 6th in the Olympic 100m hurdles; Jenna Martin, a semi-finalist in the 400m and Sarah Wells, a semi-finalist in the 400m hurdles. The Laurentian women’s indoor track team opened their season this weekend at the University of Toronto’s Sharon Anderson Open and the Guelph New Year’s Opener.

The Vees returned with five medals and 10  top-six performances. At the Sharon Anderson meet, senior Adrienne Wilson won the 1500m with a fast kick, while breaking the OUA qualifying standard by over 10 seconds. The Laurentian women’s cross-country running team competed at the CIS (Canadian University) championships in London this weekend, completing their season with 356 points and a 13th place finish in a field that included 20 full teams plus individual athletes from seven additional universities.
